EMG Belgium heeft met succes een innovatieve remote productie getest tijdens een hockeytraining van de Red Panthers op de Wilrijkse Pleinen. In samenwerking met Telenet en Play Sports werd het programma aangestuurd vanuit de regie in Vilvoorde, zonder dat er een OB-truck op locatie aanwezig was.

Voor deze test werden tien camera’s ingezet op het terrein met een E-line-verbinding naar de regie in Vilvoorde. De verbinding werd mogelijk gemaakt met Diploy-technologie. “We gebruikten SNP’s (gateways) om via de JPEG XS-codec beelden door te sturen over de netwerkverbinding met Vilvoorde. De JPEG XS-codec zorgt voor een low-latency overdracht naar onze regie in Vilvoorde. Ook alle andere noodzakelijke data, zoals cameracontrole, audio en intercom, worden over het netwerk doorgestuurd om de productie te laten werken”, vertelt Pepijn Aerts, hoofd beeldtechnicus.

Op locatie waren cameramensen, audiotechnici, een hoofd beeldtechnicus, een assistent en medewerkers van Play Sports aanwezig om alles vlot te laten verlopen. Er was ook een presentator en commentator ter plaatse om een echte match na te bootsen. In de regie in Vilvoorde werden de chef van het lijnencentrum, de chef regie, een LSM-operator (een operator die de herhalingen en slow-motionbeelden selecteert en afspeelt) en de productie van Play Sports ingezet.

EMG Belgium werkt samen met Telenet aan een innovatietraject op verschillende gebieden, zoals multicamera, postproductie en play-out. Binnen dit project worden verschillende vernieuwingen getest, waaronder deze remote test. Het innovatietraject is een partnership tussen EMG Belgium en Telenet.

Deze succesvolle test opent de deur naar de toekomst. “We hebben dit nu getest in een hockeycontext, maar dit kan ook worden toegepast op voetbal, veldrijden, basketbal, volleybal en veel meer, op voorwaarde dat er een stabiele netwerkverbinding is. Dankzij deze innovatie kunnen we nog efficiënter opereren”, vertelt Pepijn Aerts. Remote productie biedt tal van voordelen. Het is innovatief, duurzaam, kostenbesparend en vermindert de nood aan transport en opbouw op locatie.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was held at the Yas Marina Circuit over 58 laps across the weekend of Friday 10 to Sunday 12 December. 

The Gravity Media team travelled to Abu Dhabi to capture the action from the grand finalof Formula 1 season. For the first time ever, Max Verstappen claimed victory as he was named the Formula 1 World Champion!

The Saudi Arabia Grand Prix was held at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit over 50 laps across the weekend of Friday 03 to Sunday 05 December.

Over the weekend of Friday 19 November, the inaugural Formula 1 race took place in Qatar as both the Driver’s and Constructor Championships reached its climax as Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen battled it out with just two races to go.  

On Thursday 30 September, a statement from F1 confirmed Qatar would host the vacated race weekend following the cancellation of the Australia race whilst simultaneously announcing a 10 year race agreement to commence from 2023 at a yet-to-be announced new venue.

The Brazilian Grand Prix was held at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace circuit over 71 laps across the weekend of Friday 12 to Sunday 14 November.  

The Gravity team travelled to Brazil to capture the weekend’s Formula 1 action which saw Lewis Hamilton claim victory after an outstanding comeback from 10th place. The Gravity Media team supplied outside broadcast facilities including our Remote Operations Flypack alongside Whisper  for the Channel 4 F1  highlights programme.

On Thursday 21 October the Gravity Media UK team co-ordinated eight technical manager guarantees for a remote FIFA ’22 Challenger powered by Adidas event for EA Sports that was streamed on Twitch and YouTube.   

The event has had 1.7m views since being broadcast on Twitch which saw a 2 v 2 tournament format promoting the new FIFA ’22 game matching pro football players with pro esports athletes across Europe, with football players from PSG, Juventus, Liverpool, Barcelona, Man City and Chelsea involved. The final saw Liverpool’s Jota and FNATIC’s Tekkz win 3-1 against Barcelona’s Pedri & Team DUX Gaming’s Jaime Alvarez.

The United States Grand Prix was held at the Circuit of The Americas over 56 laps across the weekend of Friday 22 to Sunday 24 October.

The Russian Grand Prix was held at the Sochi Autodrom circuit over 53 laps across the weekend of Friday 24 to Sunday 26 September.  

Following the Italian Grand Prix, the Gravity team went behind the scenes at Red Bull HQ capturing the weekend’s Formula 1 action with Whisper  for the Channel 4 F1  highlights programme.
