Summer Olympics Tokyo 2020

Going for gold.

Billions of people around the world tune into the Olympic Games ritually every four years. It is the largest and most complex multisport event on the planet – the one the athletes most want to win; the one the fans most want to be immersed in. Preparation starts almost a decade before each event, with organisers and suppliers working hard to support the host nation’s long-term sports, social and environmental ambitions. For our part, Gravity Media has been a permanent fixture at the Games for the past 20 years, trusted to support superior content delivery both creatively and cost-effectively. We’ll be at Tokyo 2020 too, which, due to COVID-19, will run from 23 July to 8 August 2021.

Our support to the Olympics and Paralympics spans the full production spectrum, from comprehensive equipment rental packages, through infrastructure builds and systems integration, to bespoke flyaway solutions and post-production and edit suites. As a minimum, we’ll supply kit from our extensive range of cameras and lenses alongside Avid systems and EVS servers; and at the top end, we’ll fit out International Broadcast Centres (IBCs) and engineer dedicated broadcast solutions.

Each edition of the Olympics demands a sophisticated workflow that can handle multiple feeds from multiple sports in multiple venues being transmitted together to the IBC. Each operation therefore requires careful planning and meticulous attention to detail, culminating in a series of dedicated Production Control Rooms with their own production teams ‒ the equivalent of setting up and running several complex live events simultaneously. Meanwhile, we also regularly provide ancillary services, such as project management and logistics and technical support, with operational crew members including engineers, audio engineers, communication engineers, vision controllers and riggers working permanently onsite for the duration of the event.

Gravity Media also has a number of state-of-the-art Production Centres located globally that can provide full-service production capability. We’re geared for flexible solutions configured for multi-platform delivery, with HD studios, production galleries, commentary booths and more. Output includes live world feed production and fast-turnaround highlights, studio wraparounds, in-venue big-screen production, high-end social media content, and full production of international programming blocks. Our versatile post facilities offer full end-to-end 4K production workflow, colour grading and motion graphics; and our digital archive management and storage systems allow clients and their partners to search, view and commercialise footage in any format from any location.
